NEW DOCUMENTATION CONFIRMS: MOBILE PHONE RADATION DAMAGES GENES!
In our series Effects of Wireless Communication Technologies, the third brochure How Susceptible Are Genes to Mobile Phone Radiation? State of the Research—Endorsements of Safety and Controversies—Self-Help Recommendations was released in German at the beginning of December 2008. The English translation is expected for the beginning of February 2009. The documentation shows how large the international body of evidence already is for DNA and chromosome damages resulting from mobile phone radiation exposures, and what evidence supports the notion that UMTS radiation is particularly hazardous.
In their research reports, the experts in biomedicine and biosciences Prof. Franz Adlkofer (REFLEX project coordinator), Prof. Igor Y. Belyaev (member of the Russian radiation protection commission), and Vladislav M. Shiroff also make it clear that this is entirely about non-thermal effects well below current exposure limits. To ignore, repress, or even deny those, is an act of irresponsibility to limit the available knowledge base. Prof. Adlkofer states: “The endorsement of safety by the German Mobile Phone Research Program regarding the health risks of mobile phone radiation is based rather on wishful thinking than facts.” And the biophysicist V. M. Shiroff comes to the conclusion: “As long as wireless communication technologies have not yet switched to non-pathogenic field parameters, the intense use of mobile phones or Wi-Fi networks is strongly advised against, as well as living and working in close proximity to mobile phone transmitters.”
One article also addresses latest accusations that studies at Vienna University had allegedly been falsified. The documentation of the events shows that the claims of falsification could not be proved, as was also confirmed by the investigations of the Austrian magazine Profil. Furthermore, the results of both studies (REFLEX 2005 and UMTS 2008) that were criticized are in complete agreement with the current body of research as documented in this brochure. And regardless of the pretence of ethical concerns this campaign was started under, it seems more to be about the elimination of former research data and the stop of new research projects that would threaten the profit interests of the industry.
According to the authors of this documentation, there is sufficient evidence for harmful biological effects to demand a different approach from the authorities in politics and sciences to fulfill their mandate. “Radiation protection” commissions and research programs, in which those set the tone who make endorsements of safety and repress provocative research results, do not protect, but compound the risks of public health and the national economy, says Prof. Karl Richter in his critical analysis of society.
The authors call on independent scientists and responsible citizens to take the raising of awareness and any realistic protection efforts in their own hands—as a program for self-help. This documentation makes first recommendations.
